The Ministry of Environment and Forestry has advised the authority of the Juba city council to expand the area of Juba city.
Joseph Africano Bartel Undersecretary Ministry of Ministry of Environment and Forestry said they have signed several projects with the Japanese International Cooperation Agency and other development partners to upgrade Juba city and provision of the best services to the people
“We are appealing to Juba city council authority to expand Juba town so that all the people get the services that will be provided by the government that include clean drinking water and good streets, and lights,” Africano said.
He made the statement during the signing ceremony for Records of discussion for the Juba clean project on Thursday.
“Juba is now expanding and the population increasing especially west and Southern part of Juba because we have only Juba, Kator and Munuki as Juba city but most parts of Juba remained where we have many people,” he stressed.
Africano added that the ministry would come up with projects for the government and the community to adopt climate change.
He said people should adopt the international standard of cleanness.
Earlier last month the new mayor of Juba City Council, Michael Thomas Allah-Jabu listed his top 20 plans for transforming the city after getting into the office
He also promised to fix the broken relationship between the Juba City Council and the business community in Juba.
Allah-Jabu listed 20 priorities of his administration, which include upgrading Juba City constructing orphanages for homeless children and those who have lost their parents. He also pledged support for people with disabilities.
Governor of Central Equatoria State Emmanuel Adil Anthony had blamed some officers at the Juba City Council for imposing high taxes on traders, and he directed the new mayor to address the matter.
Governor Adil disclosed that President Salva Kiir had also directed the new mayor to upgrade Juba City to meet international standards.
According to Adil, President Kiir said Juba is the capital city of South Sudan that houses everybody; including foreign diplomats, United Nations agencies, and the presidency, and therefore it must be clean and secured.
