Lightning kills two children in Yambio
Two children belonging to one family died on Sunday after being struck by lightning in Yambio, Western Equatoria State.
According to Jackeline Daniel, who is a family member of the deceased children, the tragedy occurred following a heavy downpour accompanied by a severe storm.
“Yesterday afternoon, what happened was that it was raining heavily. Three children and their mother were in the kitchen, and after the rain had subsided, the mother went to their room to collect her phone. “The sound of thunder interrupted her attempt to get back to the kids,” she explained.
Ms. Jackline added, “And her three children were thrown out of the kitchen for reasons no one could understand. Fire inflicted by thunder severely burned them, and one of the children’s necks was shattered, resulting in his death. “
The three children were rushed to Yambio Hospital, but two of them did not survive due to severe injuries.
According to the family member, one child was knocked out and badly injured as he was trying to flee the house. His entire body was burnt by the lightning, and he had lost his senses completely.
One of those killed was a boy, while his seven-year-old elder brother, who survived the tragedy, is still in critical condition at the hospital.
