Aweil police shoots wife, arrested
A police officer in Aweil has been arrested after she shot and injured his wife on Wednesday morning.
The officer has been identified as warrant officer Samuel Yout Yuot. He was arrested on Wednesday morning after he pulled the trigger and shot his wife in the right leg.
Aweil Police Spokesperson, Guot Guot says the Wednesday morning incident happened at Mederia Junction, located close to Ivory Bank in Aweil town. He said Yout’s wife was heading for work.
“The accused is our officer, a warrant officer called Samuel Yout Yout commonly known as Fadala. The lady he shot in the right leg is called Abuk Akeen Tong, she is 28-years-old, and she is his wife.”
What led to the shooting is still unclear, sources say.
The police spokesperson said the relationship between Samuel Yout Yout and his wife Abuk has been strained for some time and the wife has sought justice from the courts of law.
He however said the differences in the relationship should not be an excuse for shooting his wife.
He has asked the family of Abuk to remain calm as they investigate the matter.
“We are asking the parents of Abuk to remain calm and allow the law to take its course. Aweil community should take this action as a personal behaviour, pointing a gun at innocent citizens is against our ethics, it is against our law and is against police relations. It is unprofessional,” he emphasised.
