Yei Join Stars FC are topping the South Sudanese women football league table after the tournament was flagged off last weekend.
Yei tops the table with six points after winning 1-0 against Torit on Saturday, and 3-0 against Yambio in their first match last weekend.
Juba Superstars and Bentiu United come in second and third with four points each. Yesterday, the league entered the second matchday with the scores becoming slimmer as opposed to last week. Only Yambio thrashed Wau 4-0 as they tiptoed to a dramatic victory that handed them their first three points.
The results were: Aweil Women 2-1 Kuajok Women, Bentiu United 0-0 Juba Super Stars, Wau Women 1-4 Yambio Women, and Yei Join Stars 1-0 Torit Women.
Last week Amy Lasu, the captain of the national women football team lauded the formation of the league adding that it would boost the country’s chances in the competition.
“It’s the first time this is happening so the mood is great, it is a big deal for all the women because it has never happened in this country so there is a lot of excitement and the women can’t wait for the League to start.
“I’m mostly looking forward to playing other teams because I’ve never been able to play with other teams except for the ones in Juba, so I’m looking forward to playing with them to see how good they are, and I think it’s going to be great,” said Lasu, as quoted in SSFA website.
