VP Nyandeng tests positive for COVID-19

The Vice President for Gender and Youth Affairs Rebecca Nyandeng Garang De Mabior has tested positive for COVID-19, her office has confirmed.
The vice president’s COVID-19 status swirled on social media after the news was shared via a Facebook account that belongs to her office.
According to the post, the she was experiencing mild flu-like symptoms which prompted COVID-19 test.
Her office continued to say that Nyandeng was in good spirit and all the ‘all necessary precautions are being taken to protect her health and those of people around her.’
The office manager Mabior Abun told The City Review that the vice president’s samples were taken yesterday and the results came out positive today.
“The results came out today and yes she is positive, thank God she is in good health and isolated for two weeks in Nairobi.’’
He further said that the vice president’s health is being monitored closely.
She becomes the latest leader to contract the disease after Presidential Press Secretary Ateny Wek Ateny and Central Bank Governor Dier Tong Ngor among many others.
