Manchester United avenged their October 2020 6-1 drubbing in the hands of Tottenham Hotspurs when Edinson Cavani, Fred and Mason Greenwood all struck to complete a come-back victory.
The Red Devils went into the match seeking to capitalise on Leicester City’s collapse against West Ham, where the former lost 3-2 to the fourth-placed Hammers.
In this regard, Manchester United sought to hold a firm grip of position two by getting 63 points and seven points ahead of the Foxes.
Cavani struck after getting a line-breaking final third pass from Paul Pogba to give the visitors the lead. But the goal was overruled after a VAR check revealed that Scott McTominay had committed a foul on Son Heung-Ming in the build-up.
The South Korean would then score from close range to give Spurs the lead heading into the first half.
But in the second half, Manchester United bounced back after Fred bumped on a rebound when Cavani forced a save on Hugo Lloris from close range to make it 1-1.
Greenwood came in for Marcus Rashford and the English youngstar set up Cavani with a cross from the right flank to score a header giving the Red Devils the lead.
Paul Pogba, who had a superb evening in midfield, then grabbed his assist after setting up Greenwood for a third to wrap up the victory.
Man United looks in control of their destiny in race for Uefa Champions League places. They sit second ahead of Leicester City, West Ham and Chelsea in respectively.
