PSG, Chelsea cruise to UCL semis despite losing

French giants PSG and English side Chelsea cruised to the semifinals of the Uefa Champions League despite losing their second leg ties.

Bayern Munich nicked a 1-0 win against resilient side PSG but failed to qualify for the semifinal after the French outfit had the upper hand of winning the 3-3 tie on away goal rule.

Choupo-Mouting struck in the second half to give the Bavarians the lead but the Les Parisiens held firm to see off the game and proceed.

Bayern missed the services of their talisman Robert Lewandowski who was side-lined by an injury.

The European champions fell in the first leg after Kylian Mbappe scored a brace and Marquinhos struck in the first leg to ensure victory for PSG. Thomas Muller and Choupo-Mouting also scored but Hansi Flick’s side failed to turn the tide.

Elsewhere, an overhead kick by Mehdi Taremi handed Porto a narrow last minute victory against Chelsea but it did not fail to prevent the latter from proceeding to the semifinal.

The Blues had defeated the Portuguese side 2-0 in Seville, and was all but waiting for another performance with proper defending to see the game off.

Chelsea will therefore meet a winner between Liverpool and Real Madrid while PSG will lock horns with a winner between Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City.

Liverpool and Real Madrid are playing a second after the Spanish giants hammered English champions 3-1 in Santiago Bernabeu last week.

Manchester City and Borussia Dortmund will also play in the second leg after the Blues defeated the German side 2-1 in the first leg.
