Ole Gunnar reveals what inspired Man United 6-2 comeback against Roma

Manchester United headed into the half-time break trailing Roma by 2-1 in the Europa League semifinal and fans had already began expressing their sorrows.

Paul Pogba conceded a penalty which Lorenzo Pellegrini scored to level things up after falling behind. Edin Dzeko scored a second to double the leads for the visitors.

Cavani levelled up scores in the second half making it 2-2. Bruno Fernandes scored two goals, Paul Pogba and Mason Greenwood also scored one each making it 6-2.

But according to Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, his team failed to track back in good shape to defend, hence, they were punished in two goals.

He was quoted by Manchester-based Evening News praising his team’s comeback in the second half of the game.

He said, “We played some good stuff in the first-half as well but we forgot that you have to run back as well and you have to and run back quick.

“In the second-half we did that part better and that creates more opportunities to attack. We’re a year older, more experienced, we picked an experienced team to handle setbacks and they did.

“They had two chances in the first-half, one shouldn’t have been – it’s a soft penalty to give away – second goal: absolute schoolboy, with the throw-in, recovery runs and everything we did in that instance was not good enough.

“But we corrected it, we know that we have to run as quick, if not quicker, back that way, because from there on you can attack and it just had to be corrected.”

With a whopping 4-goal advantage, the Red Devils will head in the second leg with more than one foot in the finals of the Europa League.

Manchester United will play either Arsenal or Villarreal in the final of the tournament. The Gunners lost to the Spanish side 2-1 in the first leg of the tie.
