Chelsea avenged their 1-0 loss in the FA Cup against Leicester City by registering a 2-1 win on Tuesday night to redeem their top-four finish hopes.
Thomas Tuchel men approached the game injecting intensity and energy to attack the Foxes from the first whistle. With a high-line, the Blues kept pumping balls and passing in the opponents’ half in order to make inroads and break the deadlock.
The first half was full of drama and passion lumped up together. Blues striker Timo Werner scored but his celebration was short-lived after it appeared that he was offside when he hit the bottom of the net.
The Blues penalty appeal then got rubbished by the central referee, Mike Dean, after Leicester midfielder Youri Tielemans caught Timo Werner on the ankle.
The first half ended on a barren draw ushering what promised to be a do-or-die for the hosts in the second half. Another occasion of drama came when Werner scored but this time the ball slid on his arm, forcing the referee to cancel it for a handball. Rudiger then scored from a corner kick to put the Blues in front. Wesley Fofana brought down Werner in the box handing a penalty to Chelsea after a VAR check, which Jorginho scored.
Substitute Kelechi Iheanacho scored after being fed by Wildred Ndidi after Mateo Kovacic made a blunder at the edge of his box.
Chelsea moves to third on the table with 67 points as Leciester goes to fourth with 66 points. Should Chelsea win against Aston Villa, or should Liverpool lose to Burnley today; the former shall have nailed top-four finish.
Leicester City on the other hand remains with a must win match against Tottenham Hotspurs on the final day.
