Delegation arrives in Tombura for peace mission

A high-level delegation has arrived in Tombura County of Western Equatoria State to quell ethnic tension, the State Minister of Information, William Adreano Baiki has told The City Review this afternoon.

The committee included Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Jemma Nunu Kumba, Member of Revitalised Transitional National Legislative Assembly Paskal Bandidi, area deputy governor Kenneth Gaaniko, and former governor of defunct Tombura state Patrick Raphael Zomoi.

“We came today (Tuesday) to Juba in two delegations. One came on the call of the national government and the other was called by the First Vice President. But I can confirm that the delegation left for Tombura this morning,” said Mr Adreano.

Over the past weeks, the county has been witnessing ethnic tensions between the s two dominant ethnic communities of the area. The violence has claimed dozens of lives and displaced thousands who are now in dire need of humanitarian assistance.
