South Sudan’s major fuel supplier, Trinity Energy Limited, anticipating high fuel demand in the coming month, said the company has prepositioned nearly 20 million liters to curb fuel scarcity in the country.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Robert Mdeza, told media on Friday last week that there were 180 trucks, arriving in Juba with fuel to be distributed countrywide.
Mdeza said the recent reduction in rainfalls coupled with the upcoming December festive season would increase demand for fuel, promising there would be no shortage as the company already set the preventive plan.
“It is always that the issue of fuel maybe a challenge. The rains have almost come to an end and most of the roads that were not passable due to flooding will now become passable.”
“So, demands for fuel will go up and Trinity Energy, being a main player in the energy sector decided to plan ahead. So we have put in place a mechanism to import close to 20 million liters, including both petrol and diesel,” said Mdeza.
Trinity Energy is a leading petroleum products in the country with more than 40 percent market, supplying, distributing and retailing various petroleum products in South Sudan.
The company is currently planning to build another fuel storage facility in Western Bahr el Ghazal besides the Nesitu-based main deport.
Apart from making fuel available countrywide, Mdeza said the company aims at making fuel price as cheap as possible to all the citizens.
“Our goal is to ensure that the country continues to receive affordable and quality fuel to power the growing economy and ensure that ordinary South Sudanese have the access to it,” he added.
Despite being an oil producing country, South Sudan entirely relies on fuel imports which in most cases do not meet country’s demand.
Last month, Trinity Energy announced plan to build a $500-million-dollar refinery in the country to curb the situation.
