The Central Equatoria State Security committee has warned the public against celebratory gunfire during the Christmas festive.
This was resolved in the security committee meeting chaired by the area, Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony.
They assured the residents in Juba City and across the state of the government’s plans to provide security during the festive season.
According to Angelo Daya Lado, the state security advisor who spoke to the media after the meeting, the committee said some criminal activities in the state were instigated by some individuals who did not respect laws.
“On the Garbo incident, the committee noted with great concern on the most unfortunate incident that culminated into loss of lives, property and urged the general public to embrace a high level of cooperation between the security agencies to curb any dubious dealing within their reach,” Daya said.
The committee warned the public against any activity deemed violent and counterproductive and called for cooperation and coordination of security-related reports to the relevant state authorities for swift response and execution.
“The public is warned against engaging in any activities that are violent in nature that includes shooting and gathering because COVID-19 is still real that is affecting people and the cases are rising,” he said.
Daya said the security committee had also directed the administration of the Juba City Council to clear hawkers from the streets at the custom market.
“Traders along the custom road [should] instantly cease their business activities along the road and opt to the temporary designated locations inside Custom, or risk any drastic measures to be undertaken by the relevant security agencies,’’ Daya warned.
On Wednesday, the national police said they had arrested two people who are the perpetrators in the Garbo land row, facing the committee on land dispute formed by the President in August.
The fighting claimed three lives. Two people were wounded and one person is still missing, according to the spokesperson of the national police service Maj Gen Daniel Justin.
