Denmark first country to permanently halt AstraZeneca jab

Denmark has become the first ever country to permanently stop the inoculation using the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine over fears of blood clots.

The BBC revealed that the European country had decided to withdraw the administration of 2.4 million doses of the vaccine, despite inoculating 150,000 people with drug and registering no side effect.

“The Danish Health Authority has decided to continue the vaccination against Covid-19 without the vaccine from AstraZeneca,” statement from the Danish health authority stated in part.

The country has also rolled out the inoculation using the Pfizer/BioNTech and Moderna vaccines.

The move comes following the cagey stance taken by the European Medicines Agency, which suspended the administration of the vaccine in various European countries after reports emerged that some recipients developed rare side effects of blood clots.

Closer home, South Africa did the same but never ruled out the possibility of resuming the jab using the Astra doses.

World Health Organization (WHO) has however maintained a stand that the benefits of Astra outweigh its uses.

South Sudan is one of the countries currently using the vaccine after 132,000 doses jetted in the country last month. However, the deadly coagulation side effects are yet to be noted in Africa.
