The governor of Jonglei State, Denay Jock Chagor, has directed the newly sworn-in officials to deliver services instead of dwelling on party politics.

He made the statement during the swearing-in ceremony of the State Minister for Information, the Chairperson of Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, the Member of Other Independent Commissions and the Commissioner of Uror County, in Bor Town yesterday.

“You are appointed by your parties; however, the interest of the people of Jonglei State is paramount,” Chagor told the official according to the statement from his office.

The deputy governor of Jonglei State, Antipas Nyok Kucha, advised the newly sworn-in officials to promote peace in the state through service delivery.

John Samuel Manyuon, who spoke on behalf of the newly sworn-in officials, pledged their commitment to promoting the spirit of teamwork.

In his separate statement to the media, the chairman of Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN), Bol Deng Bol, hailed the chairperson of the Jonglei Sate Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Mading Akueth, for his hard work.

“The leadership of the Jonglei Civil Society Network (JCSN) seizes this opportunity to congratulate Mading Akueth as he takes up one of the most critical roles of coordinating humanitarian services in the State,” Bol said.

“Mading was once humanitarian personnel and is conversant with the new mandate. This is a very important commission amongst the vulnerable civil population – roughly 80 per cent of the population in Jonglei State looks up to humanitarian aides and so, a responsibility to that effect is of the utmost significance. “

Decrees

Last week, President Salva Kiir issued a number of decrees, relieving Jonglei State Minister for Information and Communication, Veronicah William Deng and replacing her with John Samuel who was also from the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (SPLM-IO).

The President also sacked five members of independent commissions, including the chairperson of the Relief and Rehabilitation Commission (RRC), Jacob Tuor, the chairperson of Human Rights Commission, Elizabeth Nyayok, member of the Employee Justice Chamber, Jacob Peter; and members of the HIV/AIDS Commission, Mary Ayom Deng and Donga Gai Donga.

He appointed SPLM-IG members Michael Mading as chairperson of the RRC, Isaac Tut as deputy chairperson of the Human Rights Commission, Philip Jok Maper as member of the Employee Justice Chamber, and Nyawaragak Martin and John Riak Ayii as members of the HIV/AIDS Commission.

The commissioner of Uror County, Tang Chatiem, was replaced by Masak Gatluak as the new commissioner.

However, there were no reason given for the replacement of the aforementioned state government officials.
