The Juba Electricity Distribution Company Ltd (JEDCO) has announced the upgrade of its 33kV Substation and Distribution Expansion Project, describing it as an “important initiative aimed at delivering more reliable, stable, and efficient electricity across the city.
According to the company, this infrastructure upgrade represents a significant step in JEDCO’s mission to modernize the power network and meet the increasing energy demands of households, businesses, and institutions in Juba.
“Enhanced network stability will reduce the frequency and duration of power outages,” the company said in its statement released on Saturday.
The expansion is expected to provide advanced protection systems to enable faster restoration in the event of faults as well as support additional feeders and extend service to new areas as Juba continues to grow.
JEDCO described the expansion as a “major milestone designed, procured, constructed and commissioned by JEDCO engineers that creates a capability to deliver similar projects in the future and capacity building for young South Sudanese engineers.”
However, the company said that due to the ongoing integration process, customers should expect scheduled outages.
“Scheduled power interruptions will occur on select weekends. These temporary outages are necessary to safely connect new Automatic Reclosers (ARCs) and ensure long-term improvements to service delivery,” the company said.
The company emphasized that these interruptions will be managed with advance notice to customers.
“JEDCO will plan the interruption schedule and inform our valuable customers ahead of time.”
