Two thieves steal $370,000, arrested

Police in Aweil Town, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, on Thursday arrested two robbery suspects and recovered $660,000, SSP500,000, two new motorbikes and one pistol.

During the investigation, the suspects implicated another suspect named Deng Kury, saying the latter masterminded the theft.

The duo said they were tipped off by Kury, who happens to be the brother of the complainant whose cash and valuables they stole.

“He (the master planner) was given $140,000 as his care and the three [suspects], each took $60,000,” Guot Guot Akol, Aweil Police Spokesperson told The City Review on a phone interview on Wednesday.

Akol said Kury was arrested in Juba while the other two suspects, Ajou Luol and Makueth Dut Apath, were arrested in Aweil on Saturday and Sunday

However, one of the robbers only known as Daniel is still missing, and the two who were arrested in Aweil are being sent back to Juba.

“We received a phone call on Thursday that some thieves stole $370,000 in Juba, and then they were reported to have headed to Aweil, so the CID managed to apprehend two,” said.
