12 detained after police foil ugly land dispute in Thongping

Juba police have detained 12 suspects who were arrested on Sunday night after engaging the officers in a shootout in Thingpong.
Police spokesperson Maj Gen. Danial Justin told the media that the suspects stormed a home in Juba’s Thongping estate, and began issuing threats to the owner and the family to vacate the land as they warned that the property was owned by someone else.
“…a group of armed people came at night and chased away the owner of that house. As a result, the owner called the police,” he said.
The police boss added that the suspects locked themselves inside a room and upon noticing the arrival of the police officers, they started shooting, hence, prompting the officers to respond and disarm them.
“We managed to arrest all of them. As a result of the exchange of fire [exchange], two of them were wounded and now they are getting treatment in hospital. And the situation is now calm,” he explained.
