Maj. Gen. Akol Majok dies in Egypt

Fourth Division Commander Maj. Gen. Akol Majok has died in Cairo, Egypt, after being sick for a month.

The South Sudan People’s Defense Force (SSPDF) Spokesperson Maj Gen. Lul Ruai confirmed his death adding the body had been flown to Juba.

“He died in Cairo this week. He has been feeling unwell for some time but I don’t know the cause of his death,” Ruai said.

Gen. Majok is a renowned army commander who hails from the Lou community of Western Bahr el Ghazal State. His death marks the second time the region has lost a high profile leader after the former army chief Gen. Ajonga Mawut died in Egypt in 2018.
