SSBC issues statement over death of construction workers

South Sudan Broadcasting Cooperation (SSBC) has issued a statement over the tragic incident where two construction workers died and three others sustained serious after they fell when assembling a transmission mast in Juba.

SSBC Managing Director James Magok explained that the five workers fell several feet above the ground after a rope that was holding them cut off when the machine malfunctioned. The incident took place on Tuesday morning.

“…the machine that pulls them up was overloaded and all the five fell down and two died on sport and other three are in critical condition as said by the minister,” Magok said

He lamented the incident and gave his condolence to the families of the constructors that lost their lives during the incident.

“So as an institution in the ministry of information, we felt affected and we felt this is bad but it will not stop us from doing the work and I assure that public that this is not a negligent and it normally happens in any construction site,” he said. 

The Chinese are constructing the antennae to improve the infrastructural standards at the state-run TV station, SSBC, and its affiliate FM station.
