Chelsea dumps Real Madrid to set up all-English UCL final with Man City

Chelsea have dumped serial European champions Real Madrid in the semifinal of the Uefa Champions League to set up an all-English final against Manchester City later this month.

The Blues won 2-0 thanks after Timo Werner and Mason Mount struck to seal the win with an aggregate of 3-1.

Timo Werner finished a yard-out header after Kai Havertz hit the bar when the hosts launched an attack on the breaks.

Earlier on, Werner scored after being set up by Mason Mount but the goal was cancelled after VAR revealed that the German was offside.

It was on the 28th minute that the German made up for the missed overruled goal to put the Blues ahead.

Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema forced Chelsea goalkeeper Eduoard Mendy to stretch and save a superbly headed ball that was destined for the back of the net. The Senegalese also saved another shot from the French striker from outside the box.

Chelsea had more chances in the second half with Havertz, Mason Mount and Ngolo Kante all having one-on-one chances against Real Madrid keeper Thibaut Courtois but the Belgian stood firm.

Substitute Pulisic received a ball from Kante and the American remained composed in the box to serve Mount who fired in the roof of the net to double up the lead with less than 10 minutes to play.

Chelsea will now play Man City in Istanbul, Turkey, for their third UCL finals. The citizens beat PSG 2-0 on Tuesday and won the tie on 4-1 aggregate.

Chelsea are first time champion of the UCL and they lifted the crown in 2012.
