England books Euro 2020 final against Italy

England edged out a resilient Danish side to book a date with Italians in the Euro 2020 final slated for Saturday.

Gareth Southgate’s men had to pounce from behind after Mikkel Damsgaard scored a stunning free-kick from 25 metres to put the Danes in front in the 30th minute. Danish defender Simon Kjaer scored an own goal in the 39th minute allowing England back into the game before the end of the first half.

In the second half, the English side capitalised on the big crowd of the fan base at the Wembley Stadium as they got their mojo back, pressing the Danes from all the fronts.

Denmark defence was forced to play long balls from deeper positions to hit the home side on the break but such efforts proved futile. The match proceeded to the extra time with Raheem Sterling winning a controversial penalty 104th minute to allow Harry Kane to slot a rebound home, after Kasper Schmeichel had comfortably saved the first shot.

England will now face Italy in the finals which will be played at Wembley Stadium on Saturday.
