France crashed out of the Euro 2020 round of 16 after drawing against Switzerland in a six goal thriller.
Haris Seferovic headed the ball past Hugo Lloris to put the Swiss team ahead and control the game in the end of the first half. But come the second half, Real Madrid star Karim Benzema struck twice in the space of two minutes to make it 2-1 in favour of Les Blues.
Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba then fired a shot from the edge of the box to triple the scores and make the French team comfortable on 75th minute. Nonetheless, the victory was never going to be assured.
Seferovic then headed another goal to bring back his side into the game before Mario Gavranovic grabbed a late equaliser to force the game into extra time.
PSG forward Kylian Mbappe had his penalty comfortably saved by Yann Sommer hence denying the French team the opportunity to advance to the quarterfinal.
Spain labours
Elsewhere, Spain laboured for victory against Croatia in an early kick off which was equally filled with drama and goals.
Croatia scored a late equaliser through Mario Pasalic to push the game into extra time. But it was Alvaro Morata who scored a left foot shot from the box to give the Spaniards hope with a 4-3 lead before Mikel Oyarzabal could make it 5-3. Spain will therefore take on Switzerland in the quarterfinals of the competition.
