Italy defeated England 3-2 on penalties to win the 2020 Euro Championship at Wembley Stadium, London. Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw scored in the second minute of the game after receiving a cross from Kieran Trippier to hit a volley past Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The first half ended 1-0 in favour of England after no side staged a tangible effort to put a strong case in winning the game. But after the second half, Italians grew into the game with Federico Chiesa threatening the English right side of the defence.
Leonado Bonucci then scored an equalizer to bring Azzurri back to the game in the second half. The Juventus centre back pounced on a loose back after Marco Verratti had forced Jordan Pickford to make a near-post save.
However, the match ended 1-1 as the game went to the extra time and onto penalties. Jorginho and Andrea Belotti had their spot-kicks comfortably saved by Jordan Pickford. On the English side, Marcus Rashford hit the post while Donnarumma comfortably saved penalties from Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka. Italy won the game 3-2 on penalties, denying England their first international silverware since 1966.
