A 43rd CAF General Assembly has voted in South African philanthropist Dr Patrice Motsepe (pictured) as the seventh federation president.
Members of association held the event in Rabat, Morocco, on Friday, March 12, where they settled on the 50-year old businessman as the next person to steer the federation.
The members adopted a unity approach which involved haggling as they prevailed on three other contenders, Augustin Senghor, Ahmed Yahya and Jacques Anouma to withdraw from the race. This enabled Dr Motsepe to sail through unopposed.
According to the information from CAF press team, FIFA President Gianni Infantino who attended the event in Morocco commended federation members for settling on a candidate with using the lenthy route.
The new president is no stranger in the matters of football. He has been the president of Mamelodi Sundowns-a South African side.
