President Salva Kiir is expected to grace the commemoration of 100 years of the establishment of the Lui Diocese of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan.

The Lui Centenary will be held from December 20 to December 21, 2021, at the Lui Diocese in Mundri County, Western Equatoria State.

This was revealed after a delegation from the Greater Mundri counties headed by Archbishop Stephen Dokolo of the Amadi Internal Province of the Episcopal Church of South Sudan met President Salva Kiir in Juba on Wednesday.

Speaking to the media after the meeting, Archbishop Stephen Dokolo said they have extended an invitation to President Kiir to attend the celebration of the Centenary of the Lui Diocese.

“We are happy because President Kiir has accepted the invitation to attend the 100th Lui Centenary that will be held in Lui on December 20th and 21st, 2021,” he stated.

Archbishop Dokolo said all the arrangements for the celebration were going on well and he urged the citizens, especially those from Mundri, to turn up for the celebration.

The delegation also commended Kiir for permitting the resumption of Rome peace talks between the government and the holdout opposition groups, adding that it was the only way to peace and stability in the country.

He thanked President Kiir for initiating the construction of the Luri Bridge that has claimed so many lives.

On Wednesday, the office of the president, on its official Facebook page, confirmed that “H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit accepted the invitation that he will attend the Lui Centenary celebration in Greater Mundri that will be scheduled on December 20th and 21st, 2021.”

The statement further added that “President Salva Kiir Mayardit acknowledged that the people of the Greater Amadi community contributed tirelessly during the liberation struggle and that we are one people and should continue to work together for peace, unity, and prosperity for our people.”

The Lui Diocese Centenary was supposed to be celebrated last year, but it was postponed to 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
