The government of Magwi County in Eastern Equatoria State has endorsed the county’s 2022-2025 strategic development plan.

Area commissioner David Otto Ramson said the strategy sets out key strategic actions needed to achieve the mission of improving roads, education, health, housing, water, and agriculture.

He made the remarks during the planning conference that concluded in Magwi yesterday with the final endorsement of a four-year Strategic Development Plan for the county.

In a statement released by the Office of Governor Torit and seen by The City Review yesterday, Otto said, “The strategic development plan will act as the principal guiding framework for the government and non-state actors in the transformation of the County.”

The plan, which is set for 2022, would promote sustainable and inclusive development to strengthen economic growth in the county.

Last month, Otto called for support to aid in road rehabilitation after initial plans to revamp the infrastructure were delayed.

Poorly maintained roads include the Magwi-Obbo-Pajok road, the Magwi Aru Junction road, Opari-Magwi, Magwi-Owiny-Ki-Bul, Magwi-Opari, and the Ayaci-Lobone road.

He said they have forwarded the plan to the state government but warned that it would take time for the state government to respond.

He said all the roads need to be rehabilitated because they are not accessible to the community members.

Otto stressed that it takes a lot of effort for one to get access to the health centre in Magwi County headquarters due to poor roads.

He said roads, especially in Magwi, make a vital contribution to economic growth and development for the communities living in the area.

In October 2021, the communities embarked on the voluntary rehabilitation of all roads linking Magwi town to the payams.

The community in Abara of Iwiri Payam managed to repair the roads leading to Magwi so they could access Magwi Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC).

The exercise came after heavy rains cut off most communities from accessing services in Magwi town as most of the roads had become impassable.
