We did not arrest, detain Angok- NSS boss Kumuri

The National Security Service has refuted allegations linking it to the arrest and detention of popular musician Larson Angok (pictured) in Wau town, Western Bahr el Ghazal.

Office of the Director-General of the Internal Security Bureau David John Kumuri on Friday issued a press statement in Juba saying the reports circulating in social media alleging that law enforcers arrested the singer are baseless and untrue.

“It is paramount to note that the musician Larson Angok has not been detained by the NSS as publicly claimed by certain personalities,” he said.

Kumuri explained that the National Security Service was aware the musician is a member of the police service working in the Criminal Investigation Department (CID).

“It is confirmed that his mother unit is responsible for his arrest and detention,” he added.

Earlier this week, information emerged on Facebook as people advanced theory that Angok had been arrested in Wau town,Western Bahr el Ghazal by the NSS.

He accused those who circulated the information of peddling rumours to tarnish the name of the security department adding their mandate is to protect but to subdue the rights of the citizens.

“This kind of information is aimed at tarnishing the image of the National Security Service,” he added, “A misinformation and targeted defamation of any personality or an institution is a crime against the panel Code Act ,2008 and it is punishable by laws of South Sudan.’’
