African Private Television Union has feted President Salva Kiir Mayardit for his contributions to peace in South Sudan and Sudan.
The event was held at the Freedom Hall in Juba on Wednesday.
The State House tweeted: ‘‘President Salva Kiir received the African Peace Award 2021, which he won for his tireless efforts to bring Peace in South Sudan and Sudan.
‘‘The award was presented to the president by the African Private Television Union during an event held in Juba at Freedom Hall.’’
Kiir has been active in 2021 trying to solve the insecurity in states outside Juba. In January 2021, the president chaired a peace conference to bring sanity in Jonglei State and Pibor Administrative Area after eight months of intense conflict that led to the deaths of over 700 people and displaced thousands.
He later offered to mediate the Sudan-Ethiopia differences that risks destabilising the region after the two countries differed over the ownership of al-Fashaqa.
Meanwhile, the president also received letters of credence from the ambassadors. They include Tannis Hill (Canada), Jonathan Mark Baxter (UK), Abdulrahman Al Ajaj Al-Kubaisy (Turkey), Erdem Mutaf (Turkey) and Nebil Mahdi Abdullahi (Ethiopia).
