JUBA – Authorities in Eastern Equatoria State on Wednesday arrested 29 suspected criminals linked to the road ambushes in Lamoronyang of Kapoeta South County.

Aliandro Lotok, Press Secretary of Governor Louis Lobong, said the suspected criminals were arrested during a security search conducted by the governor himself.

He said the suspects had earlier ambushed some vehicles that were traveling from Torit to Kapeota and that five people were killed and five others injured in the attack.

“The suspected criminals were found in the group with all the items they looted from the car that they ambushed and others were even drunk,” Lotok told  City Review in a telephone interview yesterday.

Lotok said that suspects will be arraigned after a thorough investigation and each will be charged according to the offense committed.

“The 29 suspects were rounded up in a bush and now they are in police custody in Kapoeta and they are being investigated and those found guilty will face the law,” he stated.

Lotok said Governor Lobong led the security forces in the forest to ensure that armed criminals are cleared out to combat road criminals.

He urged the armed youth in the State to stop attacking people.

“We want a state that is peaceful, we want a state that is free from conflict and we want our people to concentrate on their daily activities without harming others and without going to highways to attack people,” Lotok stressed.

The state government has deployed security forces along the roads especially in areas where the criminals have been disturbing people.
