The Mayor of Juba City Council Kalisto Lado Wani has expressed delight at the speculations linking him to the Nilepet top job, saying it indicates that he is working diligently.

Since President Salva Kiir sacked Bol Ring Muowel as Nilepet Managing Director, various people, among them Mr. Lado, have been touted as a potential replacement.

Some even went as far as alleging that the ruthless Juba City Council boss had been appointed to head the oil giant- a report that Lado has refuted.

“Those who want me to be appointed as the Managing Director of Nilepet have given me more moral. They made me feel that what I am doing here in Juba City Council is supported by the citizens,” Kalisto said, as he was speaking during a live interview that was posted on Juba City Council Facebook yesterday.

“All this speculation happened to come out because somebody is removed and nobody is appointed the same day and this makes people to proposed,” he added.

However, Mayor Kalisto urged the ordinary citizens not to interfere with the selection and decision of the leadership saying it was only the leaders who can decide the next appointee.

Not me

“I want to say I cannot be the mayor and the managing director at the same time. It is up to the leadership now [to decide] who to appoint,” he said.

He appealed to the citizens to remain patient, arguing that Nilepet is one of the strongest institutions that have many technocrats. He argued that institutions of Nilepet’s salt can still run even without a managing director.

“There are so many sons and daughters of South Sudan who are qualified and have experience and anyone appointed will handle that position,” he said.

This comes after President Salva Kiir sacked Bol Ring Mourwel from his position as the Managing Director last Thursday and since then the position has remained vacant.

The national oil company, established in 2009— two years before South Sudan’s independence in 2011— has now seen three different faces within the past six years from 2015, with Ring being the third.

Last week Central Equatoria State Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony commended the Juba City Council Mayor Kalisto Lado for restructuring the city.

Governor Adil said the demolition exercise being conducted by Juba City Council was meant to standardize Juba to meet the status of a modern city.

Adil directed the mayor to double the efforts in the Keep Juba City Clean campaign to make it green and conducive for the inhabitants.

Mr. Adil urged Juba residents and the traders to support the mayor in his endeavour to keep Juba clean, saying it was a collective responsibility.
