CES imports food to cushion residents from inflation

The Central Equatoria State government has said it has imported food commodities to the tune of four trucks to supply the citizens at subsidised prices during the Christmas season.

Tereza Angelo Lazarous, Commissioner-General for Investment Authority and Cooperation, said they have four trucks on the way loaded with bags of wheat flour and sugar from Kampala to Juba soon.

“Those trucks will reach Juba next week, as we said earlier, during the festive season. We have brought some food items so that people can buy them at affordable prices compared to the markets, ” Ms. Lazarous told The City Review yesterday.

“We had a plan to increase the selling points, but at the moment we are going to use the ones we have in Juba, Kator and Gudele in Kuberi Abuba so that everybody resident in Juba City gets it,” she added.

She said that they will continue to compare market prices so that their products are affordable to the public.

According to Lazarous, the state government earlier had a plan to cushion ordinary consumers from inflation by selling imported food commodities at half of the market prices.

She said this came after a meeting with ministers and other officials from different institutions in the state in the presence of Governor Adil.

In August, Governor Emmanuel Adil Anthony said although the state enjoys a rich agricultural background, the war had interrupted agricultural activities.

He said the imported food items would address food insecurity. He added that his government was ready to accept investment in all aspects, including education and health.

He planned to open more branches at the county level so that all the people could benefit from the initiatives.
