It is always important to give credit where it’s due and everyone deserves the right to be appreciated if he or she does something good and Governor of Eastern Equatoria State Louis Lobong is not an exception.

On Monday, Governor Lobong launched an aggressive hunt for the road criminals who have been attacking and killing travelers in greater Kapoeta and according to reliable sources, over twenty suspects believed to be road criminals were arrested.

The involvement of Governor Lobong in hunting out for those criminals has demonstrated how a leader should act. This is the best example of a good leader.

In a series of pictures shared on social media and verified by The City Review Fact-checking Desk, Lobong is seen leading a group of security forces in the pursuit of criminals. This shows how a leader should act, getting involved in addressing the problems facing the people.

Many questioned the risks that come with a governor getting directly involved in searching for armed criminals. In their psychological alignment, Lobong should have just sat and commanded a team of forces to carry out the operation. But, of course, some situations demand the participation of a leader and when that call for that assignment comes, the leader should leave no stones unturned.

As a leader, one has to be courageous to lead the people from the front, especially at the time when their lives and safety are under threat from the actions of bandits. Therefore, Governor Lobong deserves that credit for demonstrating a sterling example that other governors can emulate.

South Sudan would be in total peace if our politicians act impartially in addressing insecurity-induced challenges. For instance, since 2016, Lakes State has not been at peace with itself. Thousands of innocent lives were lost throughout this period due to the persistent inter-communal violence, cattle raiding, and revenge killing in the area.

The government’s effort to stop the killing through disarmament had proved futile because armed common citizens under powerful influences failed to surrender weapons.

So, Lakes State only became stable after the appointment of the former head of military intelligence Gen. Riiny Tueny Mabor as governor of Lakes State. The appointment of Gen Mabor has brought peace.

This is not out of the blues but through his commitment and hard work that has ensured that that peace returns to the area. Many times Gen Mabor is seen addressing the people in Lakes State educating them on the importance of peace. He has also deployed organized forces in hotspot areas that were formerly used as escape routes for the cattle raiders. Today, in Lakes State one can travel from Rumbek to Cuibet and back without being attacked along the road. Cattle keepers can take their cattle for grazing without fear of being raiding.

Governors Lobong and Gen. Mabor have proven to the citizens that these are the kind of governors that people at the grassroots need to stop the sub-national violence as well road attacks. Kudus! give credit where it belongs.
