EES receives new vehicles to boost security
Police authorities in Eastern Equatoria State on Thursday received seven new vehicles donated by the national government to boost security in the state. The vehicles include a truck for the Judiciary to help in the movement of prisoners to and from the court.
Last week, in a bid to boost security in the country, President Salva Kiir donated 150 vehicles to the Ministry of Interior.
Speaking to the Press in Torit yesterday, Eastern Equatoria State’s Commissioner of Police Maj Gen James Monday Enoka said, “Today is a very special day in the history of Eastern Equatoria State as far as maintaining security and law and order is concerned.
“It is a great day because we have arrived with seven new vehicles: six are for the Police, one is for the Judiciary. This is very important because it is going to facilitate the rule of law and criminal justice system management,” said Maj Gen Enoka.
He said the vehicles will contribute towards combating crimes in the state especially highway robberies and cattle raids among other crimes.
“This was a donation by the President of the Republic of South Sudan actually after listening to the challenges of the Police as was presented to him by the Minister of Interior and Honorable Inspector General of Police.
‘‘Eastern Equatoria is one of the recipients of these vehicles, so these vehicles are going to contribute to combating and preventing crimes in this State, especially highway robbery and cattle raids plus other crimes,” he stated.
Maj Gen Enoka urged the public to report any cases of crimes to the authorities for immediate action.
“I want to assure the public that now they should come with their complaints.
‘‘We have mobility and will move, so there is no difficulty in the question of movement now, it is one step. I am also happy to say we also take care of the appearance of the Police, some full package of uniform has been also provided by the Inspector General of Police.”
Torit Municipal Council Mayor, Joseph Aye Joseph Oswaha, said mobility has been the major challenge he has been facing in the management of security.
“I am very happy because what has disturbed me here is the issue of the vehicle. I am very disturbed about the issue of a vehicle to respond to emergencies. I thank very much thank the President. We are remaining with one area and that is the soldiers. They should also be given vehicles,” said Oswaha.
“Vehicles like these don’t consume a lot of fuel. When we pour one jerican of fuel, it will take three days and will collect all criminals in one place and when they are new like this, there is no worry,” The Mayor added.
