At least three people living with disabilities have been awarded job opportunities at the Egypt Academy in Juba.
This is after 36 Persons with Disabilities graduated with tailoring, computer, and electronics from the vocational training center.
The Manager of the Egypt Academy, Medhat Shafik, urged the government to provide more jobs to the people living with disabilities in the country.
“Through this program, we managed to get teachers out of the training, and next time they can work with the institution. These people are very good at their work, and they will work with me when in training the disabled students.”
Shafik said that it is not easy for a person with a disability to earn a leaving but with the skills they have acquired, they will be independent.
“If someone knows how to repair a phone only what he wants is just a small place to set him up and he will be able to get some money,” he said.
He stressed that every person with a disability has talents and skills adding that it is only the support that they lack.
Shafik said he was planning to open a school for visually impaired persons in the country, adding persons with disabilities often face problems of transport.
Esther Kwahina, a student who graduated in the class computer said many learners enrolled for the course but most of their colleagues dropped out of the training due to the challenges of transportation and other issues.
“This training is very important because now we can start our businesses and earn a leaving, now that we have acquired these skills.
“I just want to tell the people with disabilities that it is not good to go begging in the streets. So, these skills will help us if only the organizations can help us with starters,” Kwahina said.
