VP Taban denies rift with National Security Chief
Vice President for Infrastructure Cluster, Gen Taban Deng Gai, has rubbished an allegation circulating on social media that he is at loggerheads with the Director of Internal Security Bureau (ISB), Gen Akol Koor Kuc.
The Press Secretary and the Director for Media and Press in the office of the Vice President, Kawaja Kau Madol Ciweer, noted that the relationship between the two leaders was good.
“Office of Vice President and Chairperson for infrastructure cluster strongly refutes allegations made by 64 tribes on the alleged rift between Vice President and Gen Akol Koor Kuc, Director of ISB,” Ciweer said in a statement shared on the office of the president’s Facebook page.
He urged the public to treat the information as fake and with the utmost contempt, adding that a viral list of generals alleged to have been promoted by VP Taban, was also false and should be disregarded.
He clarified that promotion and deployment of organised forces are the prerogatives of President Salva Kiir, as far as the constitution is concerned.
“The Vice President recognises that the commissioning, promotion, and deployment of army officers and officers from other organised forces in the Republic of South Sudan is a clear mandate of President Salva Kiir Mayardit as C-IN-C and supreme commander of all other regular forces,” he added.
According to the statement, the online outlet that calls itself ‘‘64 tribes’’ circulated information alleging that there was a brewing conflict between the vice president and the security boss.
