Chagor persuades residents to shun hatred

Jonglei State Governor, Denay Jock Chagor, has called on the residents to shun hatred among themselves and forge unity, arguing that if the state is united, then the country will immensely benefit. The state governor was speaking during the commemoration of SPLA Day yesterday in Bor.

Chagor said people are not getting along with one another, and as a result, Bor has become inhabitable, hence the need to embrace peace.

“Sometimes I ask myself what is it that prevents us from getting along with one another,’’ he said.

“We pay attention to what divides us rather than what unites us; we pay attention to what destroyed us rather than what strengthens us, and we pay attention to who is from what tribes or clans, and all of these can’t promote development in our state,’’ Chagor said.

He said the brewing animosity among the people upset the foundations that were put in place by the founding fathers of the country.

‘‘If Dr John Garang, Kebino Kuany Bol and all the fallen heroes come back today, what can we tell them now because we are full of hatred amongst ourselves; full of hatred amongst these groups versus these groups because nobody can ever go to bed satisfied of hate… even God will not be happy with you. But if we are all united and leave all the hatred that has befallen us, imagine how many problems we can solve and reach many villages with development,’’ he added.
