Juba-Mundri road bush clearance complete, construction underway
The first 158 km of the Juba-Mundri Highway bush clearance has been completed.
The second phase, which involves murram work, is expected to begin soon, the company’s field coordinator said.
Daite Bakhit Mathew, the senior field coordinator of Nile Engineering Limited (LTD), a subcontractor to the main Save Nation Limited company, said the team will return to headquarters in Juba to prepare for the second phase.
He said the bush clearing of the Juba-Mundri Highway from Luri Bridge to Mundri West town has been completed.
“Our company was one of the subcontractors to clear 158 kilometres of the bush from Luri Bridge to Mundri West County town.
“We worked hard and completed 155 kilometres, and there remain three kilometres that are within the town and the survey crew is make an effort to remodel it before clearing it,” Mathew said.
He said the structures in the Mundri town will only be dismantled after compensation in the second phase.
“The structures are there but we are not demolishing them in this initial phase. Instead, the houses and shops will be registered, and the owners will be compensated and given time to remove the structures that fell on the road before it is demolished,” he explained.
“So, as of now, we will be returning to Juba tomorrow or next tomorrow, and we will be waiting for the second phase, which is murram work, to begin, though we don’t know when that will be,” Mathew stressed.
Mr. Mathew boasted that the citizens will soon witness real growth, but urged residents of Mundri affected by the road constructed to be patient as the government and contractors are working out to compensate the victims.
