Odwar appointed head of SPLM-IO Kit Gwang Political Bureau

JUBA – The Interim Chairman of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement in Opposition (Kit Gwang faction) Gen. Simon Gatwech Dual has appointed Henry Odwar Dilah (pictured) as the Head of the Political Bureau for the breakaway group.
In a statement shared with the media Monday, Gatwech said all members of the National Liberation Council should report to the new Chairman until the movement transitions to a formal political arrangement.
“The SPLM(IO) Supreme Military Council after the Kit-Gwang declaration, I interim Chairman and Commander-in-Chief (C-in-C) General Simon Gatwech Dual, based on the power vested upon me by the SPLM(IO) Military Supreme Council, appointed Hon. Henry Odwar as the Head of the Council of Political Bureau (CPB),” the statement read in part.
“All former Political Bureau (PB) and the National Liberation Council (NLC) members to report themselves to the new SPLM(IO) Head of the Council of Political Bureau (CPB) until political reorganization within the movement is completed,” the statement added.
Mr. Odwar, a senior member of the SPLM-IO defected from the disputed SPLM-IO incumbent Chairman Dr. Riek Machar on 8th August 2021 to join the Kit-Gwang faction under Gen. Gatwech.
Mr. Odwar had taken the decision to desert Machar’s camp almost two days before his resignation from the position of Minister of Mining in the Revitalized Transitional Government of National Unity.
The SPLM-IO internal rift has dragged on despite calls from the regional and international bodies to cease hostilities and employ peaceful approaches.
