In a significant step to improve service delivery and road connectivity across Jonglei State and World Food Programme agreed to rehabilitate four rural roads in the state.
The interventions aim to enhance security and revitalize the economy.
Governor Dr. Riek Gai Gok stated that his administration’s action plan concerning infrastructure and rural development has received official endorsement from the national government.
“This is not just a plan; it’s a promise fulfilled. With support from our national partners at the World Food Programme (WFP), we are laying the foundation stone for a future built on connectivity, opportunity, and peace.”
He added, “Roads are not merely infrastructure; they are arteries of life. They connect families to healthcare, children to schools, and farmers to markets. They bring hope, dignity, and stability.”
The governor expressed deep appreciation to the national government and the Minister of Roads and Bridges for their active partnership, noting that this endorsement reflects a shared commitment to improving livelihoods across Jonglei State.
In a major boost to this initiative, the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has presented a series of road rehabilitation projects targeting key humanitarian corridors.
The project falls under WFP’s 2026 scale-up strategy and will focus on reopening access to remote communities in Jonglei State. Four major roads are expected to be rehabilitated.
