JUBA – At least three people have been killed and four others left nursing wounds at a local hospital after being attacked by a stray hyena in Tonj South County of Warrap State.

According to authorities in the state, a 26-years-old Nyalong Madut was the first to be attacked then Bol Deng, a 10-year-old boy. The incident took place last Saturday.

Speaking to Dawn Show interview with Riing Deng Ading, Warrap State Minister of Information and Communication, said it was the first time a person had been killed by a hyena in the area.

“The hyena moved to a house of a man identified as Warwien Dhorjang and killed him on the spot in Tiopik residential area. The neighbor immediately ran and killed it after they heard people crying,” Deng said.

In 2019, similar cases happened in Upper Nile State, where three family members were also killed and three others injured when a hyena attacked their home in Pathai Payam of Upper Nile state.
