President Salva Kiir is expected to arrive in Warrap State today via Wau Airport in neighboring Western Bahr el Ghazal State, region’s state authorities reported on Thursday.

According to a statement by Santino Ngong Longar, Secretary General for Warrap State government, the president’s delegation will land at Wau Airport in Western Bahr el Ghazal State before proceeding to the Warrap State headquarters in Kuajok.

Warrap State government called on government officials and the general public to queue from Tharkueng along the road up to the Council of Ministers for the reception of the President.

“You are cordially invited for the grand reception of H.E Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit, President of the Republic of South Sudan, on Friday 5th June, 2026, under the theme: “Preserving the legacy of the SPLM, Protecting the gains of our Independence,” Santino said.

“H.E the President is expected to land at Wau Airport and proceed to Warrap State Hqrs (Kuajok). The reception will commence from Tharkueng, Yiith-Liet, Angui to the Secretariat General, Council of Ministers Hqrs for briefing, then to Freedom Square for public rally. Hence, the general public are hereby advised to queue from Tharkueng along the road up to the Council of Ministers,” Ngong explained.

The State secretary General urged security forces to heighten security and ensure stability during the visit by the head of state.

“Therefore, the State Traffic Police and all the security organs in Kuajok Municipality are directed to play their crucial roles and ensure that all business centers are respectfully instructed to remain closed accordingly,” he stated.

President Salva Kiir is traveling to his home state of Warrap to address ongoing regional instability. This visit precedes a key national deadline, as South Sudan gears up for its upcoming general elections.

The political and security stability in his home region is considered vital for broader national cohesion.

Also, Warrap State has been plagued by ongoing inter-communal violence, revenge killings, and cattle raiding. To counter the persistent unrest, the President previously instituted emergency measures and appointed a new state administration, naming Ambassador Bol Wek Agoth as governor.

In his recent remarks, Amb. Wek attributed the persistent violence and insecurity in the state to the lack of essential services and development, saying communities are fighting over scarce resources.

Addressing cabinet ministers, county commissioners and the public, the governor said the communities that had contributed heavily to the liberation struggle felt underserved, thus fueling conflicts.
